Posterior subcapsular cataract (PSC) intheabsence ofanyotherformoflensopacities isrelatively uncommon.IntheFramingham Study isolated PSC occurred in2-1%ofapopulation aged52to85years old.' PSCoccurina widevariety ofconditions. Eshagian lists 38associations.2 Itshistopathology has beenwelldescribed.35 Quantitative microradiography hasdemonstrated markedshifts inprotein concentration atthejunction ofnormal lens fibres andPSC,creating scattering interfaces.6 PSChave beenstudied bytheScheimpflug slit-image camera. Lenses withPSChavebeenshowntobesmaller than normal andtobeassociated withasmall orabsent anterior clear zone.'
