Cloned dna containing dna insert fragment hybidizable with genomic rna of lymphadenopathyl-associnated virus(lav)

1996
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new DNA containing a DNA insert fragment capable of encoding an envelope protein corresponding to all or a part of a genomic RNA of an LAV in a λ (lambda) J19 and useful for the detection, etc., of the LAV associated with AIDS. SOLUTION: This new cloned DNA contains a DNA insert fragment corresponding to all or a part of a genomic RNA of a lymphadenopathy-associated virus(LAV) contained in a λ J19 [Collection Nationale de Cultures de Micro- organismes I-338 (CNCM I-338)] and the DNA insert fragment encodes an envelope protein. The cloned DNA is useful for the detection, etc., of the LAV isolated from patients suffering from the lymphadenopathy syndrome frequently in a prodrome or a benign form of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS). The DNA is obtained by separating an RNA of the LAV from an immortalized permanent line LAV-producing B-lymphocyte strain, preparing a cDNA library using the resultant RNA as a template, screening the cDNA library and providing the DNA as the one encoding the envelope protein.
