Photoelectrochemical Water Electrolysis

2020
Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is an attractive approach for converting solar energy to chemical fuels, such as hydrogen, and it has been intensively investigated over the past decades. This chapter will present a wide description of the experimental and theoretical aspects that relate to PEC water splitting, including fundamental principles, device configuration, and cell design. In addition, the fabrication of various photoelectrode materials for efficient PEC water splitting have been involved to emphasize the potential for innovation in this fimat. By the end of this chapter, the remaining challenges and prospective developments of PEC water splitting are also discussed.
