Recent innovations in super-resolution microscopy.

Super-resolution microscopy is no longer a novelty. Many laboratories now have commercial super-resolution instruments, although others are only just becoming aware of its potential. Some groups have implemented their own versions while the field's innovators continue to push back the boundaries. With the increasing maturity of the field, we felt it timely to produce a special issue of METHODS to share the experience and insights from the early adopters of the various super-resolution approaches. The field has grown so rapidly that it's impossible to cover every variant, but aspects of all the main approaches are covered in this issue.
