Coexistence of a Bifid Median Nerve and Persistent Median Artery in a Pediatric Trauma Case

2016
Knowledge of the variations of the branching of the median nerve is important particularly in surgical decompression and trauma cases. Bifid median nerve together with palmar type median artery is a rare anatomic variation. The importance of the persistent median artery lies in the fact that the one with a large calibre may lead to an early compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel in patients. Surgeons, in the presence of persistent median artery, must be aware of possibility of additional median nerve anomalies.
