Prolonged Lysis-Therapy of an Arteria Iliaca Externa Thrombosis in a very Low Birth Weight Infant with a Variant in the Factor-XIII-Gene

2004
Very-low-birth-weight infants (VLBW) have — compared to children of other age-groups — an increased risk for thromboembolic diseases [1]. The importance of diagnosis and management of these high risk patients is growing due to higher survival rates of previously untreatable diseases and complications. But diagnosis and management differs greatly from other age groups. Arterial angiography is rarely used since the risk of inducing another thromboembolic events and embolectomy has a high failure rate.
