2002
Objective: To assess the use of polybutester for sutures and knots in laparoscopic surgeries. Setting: Third level health care hospitals. Design: Clinical, observational, and descriptive study. Patients and methods: Patients subjected to laparoscopic surgery in five hospitals of Mexico City were included. Polybutester with T5 needle was used for sutures and two types of knots, simple and Roeder loop, additionally laparoscopic needle supporter and knots descender were used. We assessed in each patient, the easiness in handling the filament, safety in making sutures and knots, long-term follow-up (five years) to observe resulting morbidity. Results: Two-hundred and forty six patients were operated in whom the following laparoscopic procedures were performed: Inguinal plasty in 115, Nissen-type fundoplication in 111; appendectomy in 15; closure of perforated peptic ulcer in 2, closure of colon perforation in 2, and Y-in-Roux shunt in 1. The endoscopic study corroborated the integrity of the Nis
