Spectinomycin hydrochloride (trobicin) in the treatment of gonorrhea.

1975
Abstract A clinical trial of spectinomycin (Trobicin) in acute gonorrhea in men was conducted in the Special Treatment Clinic at St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, between August 1970 and February 1972. One hundred and forty men with clinical symptoms of gonorrhea received 2 g spectinomycin HC1 in a single dose intramuscularly. Of these, 101 returned seven days later for reassessment. Of these, 84 had a complete follow-up, with a bacteriological cure rate of 95 percent and a clinical cure rate of 91.8 percent. Therefore we conclude that spectinomycin HC1 (Trobicin; Upjohn) is a useful drug for the treatment of acute gonorrhea in males.
