Performance of Nb3Sn Tape Magnet Cooled by Indirect Conduction Method

A small superconducting magnet was manufactured in the shape of double pancakes using Nb3Sn tape conductors. The magnet was operated by indirect conduction method of forced circulation cooling in the range of temperature above 4.2 K. At temperatures below 10 K, the quench was caused by the flux jumping induced by a perpendicular field to the tape plane and the maximum perpendicular field Br-max was about 2.0 T. At about 10 K the optimum performance was obtained and the maximum field Bmax attained up to 3.9 T. A small superconducting magnet system using small cryorefrigerators was also successfully operated to generate Bmax of about 2.4 T at about 14 K.
