Preparation, morphology and specific surface area of CeO2-ZrO2 and CeO2-ZrO2-Al2O3 fine fibers via precursor sol–gel technique

2010
Abstract The CeO 2 -ZrO 2 (CZ) and CeO 2 -ZrO 2 -Al 2 O 3 (ACZ) precursor fibers were prepared by dry-spinning method via precursor sol–gel technique. The as-prepared fibers were put into a programmable tube furnace for heat treatment to obtain the samples. The both fibers formed solid solution with a face centered fluorite cubic cell. The morphology of the fibers was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). After sintering at 1050 °C, the both fibers are composed of uniform nanocrystallite with free cracks and small pore, and exhibit good thermal stability. The specific surface areas of the CZ and ACZ fibers were determined with the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method. The CZ and ACZ fibers sintered at 1050 °C have the specific surface areas 18 and 30.6 m 2 /g, respectively.
