Resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) can be defined on the basis of its time of onset. Primary resistance is a failure to achieve a significant therapeutic response, whereas secondary or acquired resistance is the progressive reappearance of the leukemic clone after an initial response to the drug.
