Lesiones Endoperiodontales combinadas en pacientes con Periodontitis crónica, moderada o severa

2014
Much has been discussed worldwide about the real relationship between periodontal and pulpa dentarial disease; the great controversy has been settled in the consequences it can bring in advanced periodontal disease on the pulp. Based on the above, this study asks the following question: What is the frequency of combined periodontic-endodontic lesions in patients with moderate to severe chronic periodontitis attending the Integral Diagnostic Unit, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Carabobo in the period April to June 2012? 36 teeth were evaluated clinically and radiographically for the presence of pain, fistula, pulp vitality and external root resorption; 6 of these teeth had necrotic pulp and 5 of these were affected by severe chronic periodontitis (13, 89 %). None of the teeth had fistula or external root resorption and only 2 teeth with necrotic pulp and severe chronic periodontitis manifested acute pain. According to the results, we can conclude that periodontic-endodontic lesions of periodontal origin can be considered low frequency, since it only occurred in 6 of 36 periodontally affected teeth (16.67%) and severe chronic periodontitis are more prone (83.33 %) to develop periodontic-endodontic lesions, relative to moderate chronic periodontitis (16.66%).
