EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON DIFFERENT LAYER COMPOSITE BOLTED JOINTS

2012
In this paper,an experimental study regarding the maximum bearing strengths of bolted-joint of glass epoxy composite laminate with [90/+45/-45/0]s,[90/0/+45/-45]s and [+45/-45/90/0]s stacking sequences is presented. The ratio of the distance from the hole center to the top edge to the hole diameter is four(E/D=4),and the ratio of the specimen width to the pin diameter is five(W/D=5).The results show that the bearing strength increase when the torque increase, but the trend is diminishing. When torque is 5N·m,strengths of three plies are found to be stronger when compared to pinned-joint by up to 175%,196%,141%.When it is pinned-joint,the strength of [90/+45/-45/0]s increases by 12.7% than [90/0/+45/-45]s,the strength of [+45/-45/90/0]s increases by 10.8% than [90/+45/-45/0]s.But when torque is used by hand, the strength of [90/+45/-45/0]s increases by 3.5% than [90/0/+45/-45]s,the strength of [+45/-45/90/0]s increases by 0.37% than [90/+45/-45/0]s.As the rate of washer outer diameter to inner diameter increases from 2 to 3,the bearing strength increases, but it changes very little when it is from 3 to 4.
