Clinical Application of Microcatheter Superselective Bronchial Artery Embolization

2004
Objective: To evaluate the value of microcatheter superselective bronchial artery enbolization (SBAE) treating advanced bronchogenic carcinoma and massive hemoptysis. Methods: 52 patients with advanced bronchogenic carcinoma and 20 patients with massive hemoptysis were performed by SBAE respectively. Results: The catheterization was successful in all procedures (100%). The total effective rate of treating bronchogenic carcinoma was 100%. The survival rate at 1,2,3 years was 100%, 90%, 40% respectively. Immediate and complete control of hemoptysis was achieved in 15 patients. Marked reduced bleeding was seen in 5 patients. No serious complication occurred in all patients. Conclusion: Microcatheter for superselective bronchial artery embolization is an effective and safe procedure for treating advanced bronchial carcinoma and controlling massive hemoplysis and complications can be avoided.
