Clinical characteristics of children of congenital syphilis complicated with cytomegalovirus infection

2018
Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of children of Congenital syphilis (CS) combined with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Methods Total of 128 cases diagnosed as CS in Department of Pediatrics of Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University from August 2013 to March 2017 were enrolled. The patients were divided into pure CS group (113 cases) and CS combined with CMV group (15 cases) according to whether or not with cytomegalovirus infection. The severity and duration of liver function damage, hepatosplenomegaly, blood system damage and lung infection were evaluated and compared between the two groups, respectively. Results General data, such as onset age or gender of patients in the two groups had no significant difference (allP> 0.05). Among the 15 CS patients complicated with CMV infection, 9 cases (60.0%) aged 2-12 weeks, similar to the pure CS patients. Among the 113 patients with pure CS, 56 cases (49.6%) had liver function damage, while 12 cases (80%) had liver function damage among the 15 cases of CS combined with CMV infection. The severity of liver function damage and blood system damage had significant difference of patients in the two groups (allP< 0.05). While there were no significant difference of lung infection, hepatosplenomegaly, thrombopenia, increased bilirubin and hypoalbuminemia between patients in the two groups. Conclusions CS patients combined with CMV infection had more serious liver function damage and blood system damage, who need early diagnosis and treatment. Key words: Congenital syphilis; Cytomegalovirus; Liver function damage; Blood system damage; Hepatosplenomegaly
