temporary rehabilitation of maxillary lateral incisor

2010
Tooth agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors creates an esthetic problem that has orthodontic and prosthetic implications. This is a situation where successful treatment depends on factors such as patients age, malocclusion, amount of diastema and the quantity and quality of bone support. This article presents a new possibility for temporary rehabilitation of maxillary lateral incisors for adolescent patients in whom bone growth has not ceased. This possibility is refl ected in the use of skeletal anchorage devices, particularly with the orthodontic self-drilling micro-screw, which due to its singular properties, has revolutionized the practice of orthodontics. Besides broadening new parameters on orthodontic therapy, this new method can greatly assist the rehabilitation of patients who do not have adequate bone age to undergo to a defi nitive implantodontic treatment. This article also describes all the advantages and facilities offered by this new treatment.
