Chemical quality of raw milk as influenced by milk yield of Sahiwal breed

2015
A study was conducted during April to June 2014 at Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), India to determine the chemical quality of raw milk as influenced by milk yield of Sahiwal breed of cow. Ten healthy cows, free from diseases and maintained under similar management conditions, were selected for the study. The samples of raw milk, collected from time to time, were tested to determine protein (%), fat (%), lactose (%), total solid-TS (%), water (%), ash (%), specific gravity (cc) and solid not fat-SNF (%). The results showed that the differences in mean values of protein, fat, lactose, TS, water and ashinraw milk were significant and the results of F-test were also found non-significant due to stages of lactation. Only specific gravity and SNF was non-significant. The milk of cow number 30 was found best in terms of maximum percentage of fat, TS and SNF and milk of this cow had minimum water. However, the chemical quality of milk of all the ten cows of Sahiwal breed, studied in the present investigation, was found consistent, the differences between the minimum and maximum values of all the parameters being nominal.
