Satellite X-Ray Lines and KLL Auger Electrons from Fluorine Compounds

1981
Fluorine is an atom of considerable interest from a fundamental viewpoint. In ionic compounds the atom has a complete L-shell and behaves as an Ne-like atom. Small deviations from this ionic character can be reflected in the field of radiative and Auger transitions. We have therefore measured fluorine K x-ray spectra excited by irradiation of solid samples of 18 fluorine compounds with 2 MeV4He+ particles, using a Bragg spectrometer with resolution of 1.2eV. Auger electrons were excited by irradiation of the same samples with A1 Kα1,2 x-rays. Electrons from the main KLL Auger line were detected with a resolution of ∿1eV.
