Problematic alcohol and tobacco use among healthcare professionals

The objective was to estimate the prevalence and characteristics of alcohol and tobacco use among healthcare professionals working in the Family Health Strategy. Was realized a cross-sectional study, with healthcare professionals from the Alto Uruguay Catarinense region, Santa Catarina, Brazil, in March/2011. The dependent variables studied were the problematic use of alcohol and tobacco use and analyzed from socio-demographic, socioeconomic and health conditions. It was observed that 6.2% professionals had problematic alcohol use and 8,5% use tobacco. It is essential that employers develop specific services and actions targeting healthcare professionals’ mental health
