A commonly overlooked cause of vertigo: Cervical spondylosis

2021
Abstract Vertigo can be classified in many ways. Commonly it is classified as either central or peripheral vertigo. Central vertigo is related to brain lesions mostly, whereas peripheral lesions are mainly related to the involvement of the vestibulocochlear system. The main differentiating point between central and peripheral vertigo is the presence of vestibulocochlear signs and symptoms. There is an important cause of recurrent vertigo, “cervical spondylosis” that is commonly overlooked. For the management of cervical spondylosis, a multidisciplinary team is needed, which includes an orthopedic surgeon, otorhinolaryngologist, neurologists, physiotherapists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and social worker.
