Food Systems: Food Miles

Food systems encompass all actors, infrastructure, and institutions dealing with food from production to consumption (farm to fork). Food miles are a part of food systems focusing on the distance food travels. This article creates two ends of the food system spectrum, alternative and conventional food systems, in order to highlight important food system attributes. The problems of using food miles as an environmental measurement as opposed to other methods are also discussed.
