The optimized cytocompatibility and antimicrobial activity of octacalcium phosphate/ε-polylysine composite coating electrochemically co-deposited on medical titanium

2020
Preventing the bacterial infection of bone implant is a major challenge for developing functional biomedical materials at present. With more significant emergence of drug-resistant bacteria, the exploration of antimicrobial materials become increasedly important and urgent. More and more researchers have devoted to study new kinds of antimicrobial material for improving inhibition of drug-resistant bacteria, and other bio-properties as well. In this work, we firstly introduced e-polylysine (e-PL), which possessed of broad antibacterial spectrum and negligible cytotoxicity to human body, into octacalcium phosphate (OCP) coating on titanium surface by electrochemical co-deposition (ED). The measurements of structure and composition of OCP/e-PL composite coating demonstrated that e-PL had succeeded in combining with OCP. The bioactivity assessment of all samples indicated that the OCP/e-PL composite film had owned good biological mineralization capability. In vitro, it also had better ability to promote cell...
