Angle-resolved photoemission study of MxTiS2 (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni; x=1/3, 1/4)
1996
Abstract We have studied the valence band structures of M x TiS 2 intercalation compounds and their mother crystal 1T-TiS 2 by means of angle-resolved ultra-violet photoemission spectroscopy. Dispersions of some bands are strongly modified depending upon the individual M species. This might be caused by the hybridization between the S 3 p and the M 3 d “ e g ” states. A new band is observed at the binding energy( E B ) of 1.0eV in Ni 1 3 TiS 2 and at E B =0.5eV in Co 1 3 TiS 2 . This band has an almost flat dispersion and any corresponding band is not observed in Fe 1 3 TiS 2 and Mn 1 4 TiS 2 . We interpret it as the bonding state between the Ti 3 d z 2 and M 3 d z 2 states composed of the “ t 2g ” state.
