Metabolic profile of inflammation in the hippocampus

2012
Purpose/Introduction: Intracerebral injections are used in animal models of brain pathologies to evaluate the therapeutic impact of drugs, which cannot cross the blood brain barrier. These procedures not only cause lesions at the site of injection, but also may affect brain metabolism as a consequence of inflammation even in distant locations. In order to identify these perturbations we performed an in vivo 1H-MRS study of mice receiving an intracerebroventricular (icv) injection of saline and analyzed the metabolic profile of the dendate gyrus, a neurogenic niche in the adult brain.
