With the emergence of technologies providing high-quality, high-volume and high-dimensional data for biological systems, together with the dramatic advances in information and computational techniques, systems biology-driven approaches have empowered holistic understanding of biological systems and their applications to solutions in medicine and healthcare. This article provides an overview of the new horizons in systems biology-guided approaches in ushering in the digital era in biology. Focusing specifically on computational methodologies, it highlights the digital drivers shaping the current landscape.
