Design of Adaptive PID Controller For Fuel Utilization in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

2018
This paper presents simulation of control and fuel use in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The fuel utilization is within the range of 0.7 to 0.9 mol/s for the reference voltage of SOFC 330 Volt DC output. In order to achieve these objectives, an adaptive PID control is used which controls the operating output voltage of SOFC according to the reference given. This simulation uses Self Tunning Controller method with Recursive Least Square parameter estimation and to calculate PID controller parameter using Dahlin algorithm. The simulation results show that adaptive PID is capable of achieving setpoints with a better rise time response of 0.9s compared to conventional PID 1.98s with an average fuel consumption of 0.702 mol/s. In this case the adaptive PID is better at overcoming the interference from the external load currents generated by the SOFC.
