The application of Stoppa approach in anterior pelvic ring fracture

2011
Objective:To investigate the effects of Stoppa approach in treatment of anterior pelvic ring fracture. Method:From June 2008 to February 2010,17 cases of anterior pelvic ring fracture were treated through the Stoppa approach. According to Tile classification,3 cases were Tile type A2,5 cases were B2,7 cases were B3 and 2 cases were C2. The Stoppa approach was adopted for operation. Plate was used in 11 cases. Plate and external fixator were used in 4 cases. Plate and sacroiliac screws were used in 2 cases. The radiological results were evaluated by using Matta method. Result:The incision length of the Stoppa approach ranged from 10 to 13cm(average 12 cm) . The operation time ranged from 80 to 100 min(average 90 min) . And the blood loss in the operation ranged from 300 to 600 ml(average 450 ml) . According to Matta method, all cases obtained excellent reduction effects. 13 of them were followed up for 8 to 10 months and clinical bone healing was obtained. Conclusion:The Stoppa approach has lots of advantages, such as small incision, anatomical clarity, convenient reduction, low complication rate and fast rehabilitation. The Stoppa approach is an excellent choice in surgical treatment of anterior pelvic ring fracture.
