Central Giant Call Granuloma Of Maxilla : A Case Report

2012
Central Giant Cell Granuloma(CGCG) is an uncommon bony lesion in the head and neck region, most commonly affecting the mandible. Its incidence in maxilla is rare. Although it is a benign disease process, it can also be locally destructive. Etiology for this lesion is still unknown although it has been said to be associated with trauma, genetic alteration & hormonal changes during pregnancy. Medical treatment of GCG has proved successful. Intralesional steroid injections result in growth arrest and even resolution of the lesion. Surgery is the traditional and still the most accepted treatment for Giant Cell Granuloma. The case reported here involved a maxilla which is rare site for CGCG. On clinical & radiological examination diagnosis was not clear. Histopathological examination was done & diagnosed as Central Giant Cell Granuloma which underwent for surgical excision. Case reported here highlights importance of histopathology in diagnosis of this rare lesion.
