Detection and estimation of shallow velocity anomalies for near-surface model construction in Saudi Arabia

1996
Routine interpretation of low relief time structures (10-30ms) from land surveys assume all shallow velocity anomalies have been removed and simple vertical time to depth conversion is used to generate depth maps. Failure to account for remaining buried velocity anomalies and unresolved statics, increases the risk of mapping artificial depth structures. A detection, estimation and depth imaging strategy for shallow velocity anomalies is developed and applied in an effort to validate interpreted time structures.
