Clinical Effects of Radio-Frequency Treatment on Bartholin Cyst and Abscess of Bartholin Glands

2014
Objective To investigate clinical effects of radio-frequency treatment on Bartholin cyst and abscess of Bartholin glands. Methods A total of 169 cases with Bartholin cyst or abscess of Bartholin glands were obtained from Gaoyao People's Hospital between June 2010 and February 2013. They were randomly divided into two groups according to the order of hospitalization, study group (n =85, odd number) patients underwent radio-frequency for Bartholin gland cyst or abscess incision drainage stoma; control group (n=84, even number) underwent traditional incision and drainage for the Bartholin gland abscess or colostomy. There were no significant differences between two groups on age and other clinical information (P>0.05) . The duration of operation, intraoperative bleeding amount, postoperative recovery time and postoperative recurrence were analyzed. The study protocol was approved by the Ethical Review Board of Investigation of Gaoyao People's Hospital. Informed consent was obtained from all participates. Results The average duration of operation in study group and control group were (5.60 ± 0.55) min and (17.50 ± 0.56) min, respectively, with significant difference (t=1.97, P<0.05) .The bleeding amount during operation in study group and control group were (5.64 ± 0.30) mL and (23.11 ± 0.26) mL, respectively, with significant difference (t=1.97, P<0.05) .The average recovery time in study group and control group were (24.72 ± 0.85) h and (75.59 ± 0.67) h, respectively, with significant difference (t= 1.99, P<0.05) .The six-month follow-up showed that no patient had relapse in study group and 8 cases (9.52%) relapsed in control group. There were significant difference between two group on the incidence rate of relapse during the six-month follow-up (χ2 =5, 21, P<0.05) . Conclusions Radio-frequency in the treatment of Bartholin cyst and abscess of Bartholin glands is of more advantages than traditional operation methods. Key words: Bartholin's Glands; Cysts; Abscess
