New metabolic products of Verticillium lecanii. Part 2. 3β,12β,-Dihydroxy-4,4,14α-trimethyl-5α-pregna-7,9(11)-diene-20S-carboxylic acid and 4,4,14α-trimethyl-3-oxo-5α-pregna-7,9(11)-diene-20S-carboxylic acid

An insecticidal hydroxy acid (C25H38O4) isolated from certain entomopathogenic strains of Verticillium lecanii is shown to be 3β,12β-dihydroxy-4,4,14α-trimethyl-5α-pregna-7,9(11)-diene-20S-carboxylic acid. 4,4,14α-Trimethyl-3-oxo-5α-pregna-7,9(11)-diene-20S-carboxylic acid and, probably, 3β,20,21-trihydroxy-4,4,14α,20-tetramethyl-5α-pregn-8-en-7-one were identified as minor metabolic products of this fungus.
