Aspectos farmacológicos e toxicológicos de Psychotria colorata – revisão

Psychotria colorata popularly known as perpetua do mato and repolho, is a plant of the family Rubiaceae widespread in South America, is found in Amazonian region of Brazil. The plant have been used in traditional medicine as painkiller for earache, abdominal pain by “caboclos” of traditional rural communities from the state of Para, Brazil. However, ingestion of the plant was associated with the occurrence of abortions in cows. In addition, the plant has been related to promote neurological effects in mice. The phytochemical analysis from leaves of P. colorata revealed the presence of several pyrrolidinoindoline alkaloids, including psychotridine, hodgkinsine, isocalycanthine, calycanthine, which may be related to the pharmacological and toxic activity of the plant.
