Information Technology for Decision-making Support for Personalized Parameter Selection in Retinal Laser Treatment and Photocoagulation Outcome Prognostication

2020
We propose a new information technology for mapping macular photocoagulation patterns in the laser treatment of diabetic retinopathy and evaluating the treatment strategy efficacy. The technology relies on processing optical coherence tomography (OCT) data, fundus image segmentation, mapping photocoagulation plans, and development of prognostic indicators of the laser photocoagulation treatment outcome. Analysis of the OCT data enables a pathological area to be extracted and then refined based on retinal image segmentation results, allowing a photocoagulation treatment region to be outlined. A photocoagulation plan mapped for the region of interest (ROI) is then analyzed to identify the treatment success probability based on prognostic indicators. The technology developed will offer the retina specialist a preliminary photocoagulation plan, as well as allowing the assessment of the diabetic retinopathy treatment efficacy to be carried out.
