Non-surgical healing of teeth with open apices and single visit apexification with mineral trioxide aggregate: Case reports

2012
The importance of careful case assessment and accurate pulpal diagnosis in the treatment of immature teeth with pulpal injury should be overemphasized. The treatment of choice for necrotic teeth with open apex is apexification, which is induction of apical closure to produce more favorable conditions for conventional root canal filling. One-visit mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) apexification is gaining in popularity over the use of conventional calcium hydroxide barriers. Conventional calcium hydroxide apexification treatment takes long time span and there are risks such as resorption and tooth fracture, while MTA apexification procedure is fast, predictable and success rate is high.
