A Study on Infectious and Non-Infectious Pulmonary Complications in Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation

2019
Introduction: Bone Marrow Transplantation is a standard therapy for aplastic anaemia, acute leukaemia’s, chronic myelogenous leukaemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Hodgkin’s disease with long-term disease-free survival exceeding 60% [1]. Encouraging results are also noted in the role of BMT in the management of hemoglobinopathies, immunodeficiency disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes, multiple myeloma and testicular and breast cancers [1]. Pulmonary complications including infectious and non-infectious conditions which occurs in 40% - 60% of patients who received BMTs, account for meaningful morbidity and mortality.
