Maturational Death of the Neuron in Ischemic Brain Injury
1992
Putative mechanisms underlying the ischemia-induced maturational death phenomenon in the brain cells were discussed on the basis of various experimental findings in our laboratory. There is a possibility that even a brief, transient ischemia alters gene expression and elicits avid intercellular membrane communication. In some cases, such changes are followed by a long degenerative process lasting several months.
