FLOW3D assessment of two-dimensional cold-leg high-pressure injection test data

The purpose of this study was to use available two-dimensional high-pressure injection test data to assess the capability of the FLOW3D computational fluid dynamics computer code to perform analysis related to transients which could occur during a loss of coolant accident. The code was found to predict the correct flow regime variations as a function of Reynolds number, and many of the dominant mixing mechanisms occurring in the buoancy-dominated SAI two-dimensional tests.
