Analysis of TCM physical identification of the elderly population in Chengdu city

Objective: To provide epidemiological survey data for TCM constitution dialectical of elderly population on disease control and prevention,Chinese health care,public education and so on,by investigating the TCM constitution of 55 to 85 years old elderly population(740 persons) from Chengdu south railway station community,and analyzing the type and characteristics of TCM constitution of the different gender and different aged elderly population.Methods: In the form of physical identification system by collecting information of tongue,complexion and pulse,questionnaire and scales to conduct the TCM physical identification.Results: Qi deficiency,yin deficiency and hot in nature were the major types of constitutions of the survey population which accounted for 409 cases,74 cases and 73 cases,respectively.Distribution constituent ratio was different in different genders and different age groups with significant difference(P0.001).Conclusion: Through the epidemiological investigation on TCM physical identification of elderly population from Chengdu south railway station community,it reveals the distribution regularities of TCM physical types of the elderly population in communities in Chengdu.It has very important practical value and can improve the physical constitution of the elderly population.
