Threshold for production of fission neutrons in the reaction /sup 235/U (d,pf)

1982
Measurements of the neutron yield from deuteron-induced fission of /sup 235/U are carried out for the purpose of providing information on the states of the fissioning nucleus. Neutrons were measured by a scintillation detector placed in the direction of motion of the fragments. The neutron yield as a function of the excitation energy shows three maxima, which are attributed to states which are members of a single rotational band with K = 0/sup +/.
