Background
During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Health Protection Agency (HPA; from 1 April 2013 Public Health England; PHE) delivered an enhanced surveillance programme in order to provide a comprehensive assessment of the public’s health, including residents and national and international visitors to the Games. Syndromic surveillance played an important role in this service.
