Introducing a complementary treatment planning software for GZP6 brachytherapy system

2010
Brachytherapy is one of the well-known methods for cancer treatment which uses implanted radioactive sources in the tumor to destruct it. One of the widespread high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy systems is GZP6 system. The treatment planning software of it has some deficiencies which are resolved by introducing a complementary treatment planning software (CTPS). The physical datasets needed for determining the dose distribution around each radioactive source have been obtained based on the Monte Carlo method. The GZP6 CTPS program suggests the user more flexibility in patient-specific treatments. It is an essential program for evaluating the correctness of non-predefined treatments with an easy use for medical staff. The GZP6 CTPS is an executable user friendly environment capable of being run on any computer and operating system while the datasets used for its calculations show a very little uncertainty of less than 1%.
