Questionnaire survey of the knowledge of "platinum ten minutes" self-and-mutual aid among new recruits

Objective To investigate the situation of new recruits on the knowledge of "platinum 10 minutes self-andmutual rescue", to explore the training methods of skill of self-and-mutual rescue, and improve the awareness of self-and-mutual rescue and skills of the servicemen. Methods Three hundred and twenty new recruits were surveyed using "platinum-10-minutes" self-and-mutual rescue questionnaire at the same time. The questionnaire mainly included two parts: (1)basic information, including sex, education and age; (2) basic knowledge of first aid, including concept of platinum-10-minutes, judgment of patient's vital signs, basic knowledge and first aid knowledge. Using Epidata3.1 for data entry, data were analyzed by SPSS17.0 and SAS software. Results New recruits had just a familiar and basic mastery of "platinum ten minutes" concept and self-and-mutual rescue knowledge. The percentage of familiar with "platinum 10 minutes" concept, judging individual vital signs, basic knowledge, first aid knowledge was 1.3%, 9.4%, 3.4% and 14.7% respectively. 26.6%, 42.8%, 58.2% and 57.2% of them had a basic mastery in these four aspects. 51.3%, 36.3%, 36.3% and 26.6% of them understood these four aspects. There were 20.0% of these soldiers who did not understand the concept of "platinum 10 minutes" completely. In addition, education background was found to be the influencing factor of consciousness and knowledge about self-and-mutual rescue. Conclusions It is necessary to improve the knowledge of "emergency platinum ten minutes self-help and mutual-rescue " among servicemen.
