Effects of “Residual Stress Controlled TMCP Steel Plate” on Accuracy of Ship Blocks

A new TMCP steel plate, called as “Residual stress controlled TMCP steel plate”, was developed for use in fabricating the cargo tank and hull structure, which was expected to build accurately ship blocks and to increase productivity through mechanization/automation effectively. In the 1st report, the effects of residual stress of TMCP steel plate were discussed in slit-slot cutting. In this investigation, using thermal-elastic-plastic FEM and experiments in fabricating straight double hull blocks, the effects of residual stress of TMCP steel plate are quantitatively discussed in stiffener welding after slit-slot cutting and in inserting transverse panel into skin panel from longitudinal end. The results of this paper are as follows.(1) Residual stress of TMCP steel plate has great influence on the accuracy of transverse panel after stiffener welding.(2) In the construction of straight double hull blocks made of “Residual stress controlled TMCP steel plate”, construction error of this plate is smaller than that of conventional TMCP steel plate.(3) It was made clear that the productivity in inserting transverse panel into skin panel was increased by using developed plate.(4) In order to achieve high quality of block accuracy and improve productivity, it is effectively to build ship blocks using “Residual stress controlled TMCP steel plate”.
