Evalution of effect of Vitamin D levels and tumor Vitamin D receptor status as a risk factor and marker for therapeutic response Indian breast cancer patients.

2015
e12523 Background: Vitamin D has been proposed to have pathophysiological role in Breast cancer. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) has also been is a mediator for cellular effects of Vitamin D and interacts with various cell signalling pathways that influence breast cancer development and progression. These associations have not been consistenlty proved. The present study aims to study the role of serum Vitamin D levels as a risk factor for cancer breast and VDR as a prognostic marker for response to chemotherapy. Methods: 82 patients diagnosed with carcinoma breast and receiving standard treatment in Department of Surgery, King George’s Medical University between January 2012 and December 2012 were included . Vitamin D receptor expression was determined in the tumor tissue sample and graded with Immuno Reactivity Scores(IRS). 65 patients admitted for non cancer elective surgery served as controls for serum Vitamin D levels and 36 patients served as controls for VDR status. The study patients were followed up and ...
