Problem: Preparing the Ground for Prevention in Early Adolescence

1996
Nearly half of all junior high school students experiment with at least one use of an alcoholic beverage, an inhalant chemical, tobacco, or marijuana. It seems logical to “stay ahead of the curve” by talking to children about drugs before they are faced with the choice of using or refusing. Introducing prevention between the ages of 10 and 12 also offers convenience: Most children in that age range can be reached with prevention messages at school.
