Effect of dissolved oxygen in water on H2O2 production rate by sonication

2003
Dissolved gas in a solution is one of the most important factors for sonochemical reaction. The decomposition of pure water was performed by sonication. As dissolved gases, O2, Ar, O2-Ar and Air (O2-N2) were used. Also the examination was performed under vacuum. The highest H2O2 yield was recorded in 40% O2-60% Ar atmosphere. The combination of high sonochemical reactivity for Ar and hydrogen radical (?H) scavenging effect for O2 provided effective results. The effect of dissolved gas on product selectivity was also discussed.
