Combining soft markers with maternal serum screening tests has improved the detection rate for aneuploidy (trisomy 21, 18, 13). Although many soft markers have been reported, few are suitable for clinical use in screening programs. For measuring soft markers, skill is indispensable and ultrasound practitioners must be well trained. In the NIPT era, the role of soft-marker testing is changing.
