Primary structure of tryptophan-containing peptides from skin extracts of Phyllomedusa rhodei (tryptophyllins)

A new conspicuous set of peptides has been isolated from the skin of Phyllomedusa rhodei, a South American frog. All these peptides contain a tryptophyl residue, which justifies the suggested denomination of tryptophyllins (TPH). On the basis of their chain length, they were classified as TPH-4, TPH-5, etc. The peptides, described in this paper, have been isolated from the 95% ethanol eluate from an alumina column. They are tetra- and pentapeptide amides showing the characteristic sequences
