Primary onset of bipolar disorder as rapid cycling after cessation of oral contraceptive

This letter to the editor examines how gender seems to affect the course of bipolar disorder especially regarding the development of rapid cycling which occurs more frequently in women. It reports on a young woman who experienced rapid cycling after cessation of oral contraceptive medication as the onset of bipolar II disorder indicating an influence of sex hormones on the course of bipolar disorder.
