Dynamics of Biological Systems, Front Matter

2010
First paragraph. This text evolved from a set of class notes developed by the authors for their senior-level modeling courses taught at Virginia Tech and Kansas State University, respectively. The object of these courses was to educate students in the techniques used to model, and subsequently simulate, the performance of a biological system. In brief, the procedure was to review the applicable science, derive the differential equations, and then present the computational methods needed to solve the equations numerically. The simplest, most straightforward numerical techniques are used. It is expected that more advanced modeling and numerical methods will be covered in a subsequent graduate course.
